Floods yesterday raised water levels near the Waitati Bridge to near-impassable levels, despite low tide level.
Whilst some larger 4WD vehicles managed to pass successfully, Allan Dippie - property developer / owner of 145 Drs Point Road (known as "Opeke" to locals) - was stranded trying to drive out from Waitati to Drs Point at 8am.
With a bow wave coming up over the bonnet of his car, on-lookers watched as he came to a halt in water up to the wheel arches. Luckily for Mr Dippie a helpful local, Dave Charters, was present and towed the vehicle out safely.
