My wife and I recently went for a walk around the coastal path that has been constructed around the perimeter of the old Simpson property. It is wonderful that Mr Dippie has granted access to this area.
We both agree that the access to the coastal margin has been well constructed and that the planting will certainly regenerate the coastal strip well, once it has had time to establish.
Whilst we both miss the trees and birdlife that used to grace the greater part of the land, we acknowledge that the body of the property is now planted with oats.
Whilst the historical goals to maintain the land "as a public park" with "wise planting only equalled by that of Bendix Hallenstein, the creator of Queenstown's Gardens." has been forever destroyed, it seems clear that the site is useful rural land, with wide future possibilities of agricultural use.
